& Chapter 1
Here we go, my Junkies, the fully re-written INFECTED, large and in-charge. My present to you on this, my third anniversary of podcasting. Yes, it was March of 2005 when I launched EARTHCORE as the world’s first podcast-only novel. My how time flies when the Future Dark Overlord™ is creating stories for all y’all OJs.
We are 30 days out from the hardcover launch of INFECTED. Just one month to go before General Siglerisimo rolls his tanks down Mainstreet USA (okay, that part might will be a little farther out than 30 days, but I will be picking out tank colors at Bob’s Discount Tank & Rifle Outlet next week).

As soon as they finish with Parkmeyer, they are off to question Rex Deprovdechuk a 13-year-old boy who is now a main suspect in four murders and three disappearances.

In this episode:
Bryan and Pookie grab the arrowhead that killed Marco Gastineau and take it to Bryan’s favorite person, Mr. Biz-Nass. Robin Hudson, the San Fran medical examiner, tracks down more clues about the strange murder weapon — she not only discovers who made the arrowhead, but where that person lives … right in San Francisco’s uber-wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood.

Start selling Grandma’s retirement stocks, because it’s getting close to that time where Junkies can pony up to own their very own copy (or three) of the first printing of INFECTED, a hardcover release due out April 1, 2008. That’s right, the national holiday of Siglerism is back in ‘08, and this time it’s Perry’s balls instead of Jian’s ovaries.
Crown Publishing gave me the go ahead to give the Junkies get FIRST LOOK at the cover (okay, it took a little intimidation, I mean, “convincing” to get them to give it up, but my mentor Hugo Chavez says I’m helping them because it’s for their own good). I think the cover is sa-weet and will really stand out on the book shelves. I hope you guys dig it!

Junkies, I am back from the geek-fest that is DragonCon and ready to sober up. Let’s just say it was a rough time. J.C. Hutchins is an evil, evil bastard who makes people drink. As usual, I accept zero responsibility for my actions. I blame Hutchins, Harwood, and Soccergirl. There should be some video coming up very soon. Many thanks to the Podshow crew for hooking up all that Wide Eye beverage. I think it was nutritious, but don’t quote me.
Oh and I got shut out of the Parsec Awards for the second straight year. I remain the Susan Lucci of podcasting - something like eight award nominations overall, and eight “hey you didn’t win, asshole, so get off the stage” comments.
Here’s your damn episode. Man, you guys are all over me! This one gets a little nutty, and sets up the finale. I’m liking PASSENGER a lot, and I hope you dig it too.
PROMOS:
PASSENGER is a strange little story that takes place in THE ROOKIE universe, several hundred years before Quentin Barnes & company did their thang for the Krakens. Well, not so little, it’s at least two episodes, and might be three by the time I get through all the gross stuff at the end. Yeah, that’s right, the violence is back. I just can’t help myself. A solid 18 minutes of story, plus some great Junkie calls, plus a few rants, plus some promos, it turns out to be a big fatty of an episode for you. Congrats to podcast fiction workhorse Seth Harwood for landing a print deal with Breakneck Books.

PROMOS IN THIS EPISODE:
The Damn Dirty Junkies have spoken. We needed a new title for INFECTION, and of the names posted in the above graphic, Junkies choose INFECTED as the new name. I, your humble servant (me, humble, now THAT is a laugh …) am following your wise contributions.
You guys had some AMAZING name suggestions, many of which I’ve filed away for future novels. So in ten years, when I have taken over the world, if you see your title on a Sigler novel (assuming, of course, you haven’t been cleansed by one of my takeover pogroms), you can throw me an email. Beers are on me.
Seriously, Junkies, we had 627 votes in less than 38 hours. Thank you for the fast response. If you’re behind the times on this story, I left the original post and call the comments in place. Just click “more” to read all about it. (more…)

Okay, Junkies, we don’t bang on the charity drum very often (this is the first time), but when Hardcore Junkie Brian Thomas contacted me asking for some fundraising help, it was a no-brainer. Brian is running some ungodly marathon-thingee to raise money for Lupus research. He asked me to sponsor his effort, so the great folks at Shirts By Mail hooked us up with a custom silk-screened Junkies vs. Lupus shirt. Click on the movie link above to see the shirt, and to be tricked into hearing Brian’s pitch for support. That’s right, we trick you - don’t tell me you’re surprised. KISSYMAN is a story I was inspired to write after reading “Devil in a Blue Dress” by Walter Mosley. This is not the hard-science horror stuff that is my bread and butter, but rather a hard-boiled detective style take on an illegal immigrant from another era in America’s history. No science (unless you count psychology), but it does, indeed, get us back on the “lots and lots of violence” tip.

PROMOS PLAYED IN THIS EPISODE
So how attached can you be to an inanimate object? Turns out, pretty damn attached. This weekend, back in Michigan, I found out some rotten fucker stole my custom Carvin LB75 bass. I’m a lefty, and I play 5-string, neck-through basses, and there are very few of those in the world. Add to it that I saved for a year to buy this one, and had it painted in an obnoxious, sparkly “harlequin prismatique” finish, and you’ve got one rare bass. The guys at Carvin told me they made less than 10 of this same combination.
I will never get this gem back. I played over 100 shows with it, and it was my pride and joy for the longest time. I like unique things, and this puppy was unique. Under the stage lights, it looked like molten glass.
The serial number was 68706. That’s stamped on the base of the fretboard, right down at the body. If anyone ever sees an instrument like this, please, email me scott@scottsigler.net. The picture below is a close-up of an identical instrument, except that this one has black knobs while mine had silver.

Said theives also made away with an Ibanez RG7420-BPL left handed, 7-string guitar. Ibanez only made 50 of these. Hard to find left 7-string guitars with a tremolo - I found one, and now it’s gone as well. The serial number on that one is F0021555.
Fuck.
